Departnent is offering patients a wide array of services, the department is engaged in cutting-edge research to help better understand and treat a range of health conditions. Basic science research in the department attracts both national funding like Indian council of medical research (ICMR), Dept of Biotechnology (DBT), Dept of Science and technology (DST) and Vision group on science and technology (VGST) and state level funding like Karnataka fund for improvement of science and technology (K FIST) etc (5 faculty in the department currently serve as principal investigators. There were more than 10 active clinical trials in the Department during the 2017 fiscal year. Current industry-sponsored research in the department include studies in the use of long acting Factor VIII, and factor IX, Fibrinogen deficiency, Lymphoma, Chronic myeloid leukemia and lifestyle disease like Diabetes and hypertension.

The department offers primary care and specialty services in lifestyle diseases, infectious diseases, poisoning and toxicology, acute medical emergencies, and patients with multisystem involvement. The department is trained to handle infectious disease epidemics and in disaster management. We strongly emphasize evidence-based practice, disease prevention and health promotion. The department offers preventive care, sick visits and outreach programs to Vimalalya hospital in the nearby areas in collaboration with community health specialists. The geriatric unit offers comprehensive and expedited clinical care to our elderly population.

The haematology unit started in 1990, is in involved in both treatment and research on diseases like anaemias, marrow aplasias, coagulation disorders, acute and chronic leukaemias, myelomas, lymphomas and Iymphoproliferative disordersetc. The haematology unit offers comprehensive care for haemophilia, apheresis for transfusion, stem cell (both allogenic and autologous) transplantion, biological therapies and chemotherapy.
