Services - Paediatric Nephrology


We offer a complete range of evaluation and treatment of children with kidney diseases. Facility includes:

- A 25-bed comprehensive care unit which includes an intermediate treatment unit (ITU) and dialysis unit.

- Care for children with congenital and acquired renal diseases from birth through 18 years of age including diagnosis of renal disease in the fetus and antenatal counselling.

- Providing various forms of dialysis in children including newborns and very young children: acute and chronic hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).

- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) clinic providing complex care

- Nephro-urology clinic in collaboration today with Department of Pediatric Surgery that provides comprehensive management for children with urologic disease.

- Kidney transplantation service (Live related and deceased organ) including performing low body weight transplantation and laproscopic donor nephrectomy at a low cost.  We strive to support children and their families through fund raising efforts and other educational opportunities

- Acute care nephrology service including dialysis and pheresis procedures in critically ill children

- Genetic evaluation and counselling expertise including interpretation of genetic reports

- 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

- Training programme  to train and nurture the next generation of specialists in pediatric nephrology, with a unique distinction of being the first centre in the country, to offer DM training recognized by National Medical Council (NMC). The centre is also recognised for the quality of training by international organizations such as International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA)

- A strong research programm to improve outcomes and quality of life in paediatric patients with various kidney diseases. The only centre with a dedicated molecular and genetic research laboratory for kidney diseases.

We have approximately 650 inpatient admissions each year with an outpatient schedule of 5000 visits annually. On an average, pediatric nephrology unit performs 750 dialysis sessions (both acute and chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), 5 -7 renal transplants (total 92 transplants) and close to 100 renal biopsies per year.
